The horseshoe is a well known utility in the equestrian world and at its core is a useful tool we use to keep our horses hooves safe from work, wear, and weather. However on top of their utility horseshoes have held a place in a variety of cultures as a symbol of luck and protection along with various other historical superstitions.
This year why not upcycle some of your used horseshoes laying around the tack room into wonderful personal gifts for friends and family. Here are three simple ideas that the family can work together on this holiday season. With a bit of paint, glitter, jewels, and ribbon these gifts and decorations will add a horsey touch to your festive activities.
1) Make a personal christmas ornament
Get your creative hat on and let’s start decorating! Ornaments are by definition pretty things, so it is time to get inspired by colour palettes, glitters, jewels, and any other exciting crafting materials you can think of. They make great gifts, and can be a fun night of evening crafting with the whole family. Remember if you are planning on hanging these ornaments you will want to consider the weight of the horseshoe and choose an appropriate place and hanging method.
2) Incorporate horseshoes into your wreaths
Transform your standard wreaths into something your fellow equestrians will admire. The sky’s the limit when it comes to creativity, but this year we grabbed a can of gold spray paint which contrasted really nicely with the vivid green body of the wreath. Just remember however you decorate your wreath with horseshoes make sure they are securely attached and safe before hanging your wreath!t
3) Make your own custom set of Horseshoes for a family game night
Time with loved ones is what really makes the holidays special, and there is nothing better than a good old fashioned game! Horseshoes can make the best of us competitive, and what better way to have the edge on the competition than having your own personalized set to play with?! Whether you are making them as a gift to yourself, or a gift to give this christmas make sure you play responsibly and remember to have fun!
