Get your tack room ready for winter, and the start of a new year. Here are six great starting points to ensuring your tack room is prepared!
1) Sort Your Supplies
This is a great time to check what you are low on, replace things that are missing, and to throw out any out of date supplements or medical supplies in your first aid kit.
2) Keep Your Temperature On Point
Make sure medications and supplements that are temperature sensitive are stored properly. If your tack room does not have the ability to maintain its heat, consider bringing cold sensitive supplies into your home to avoid them spoiling.
3) Time To Go Through Your Tack
Why waste the (hopefully) good weather of spring with chores such as sorting tack! Winter marks an ideal time to go through your unwanted and damaged tack. Once sorted you can throw the damaged, unusable tack away and donate or sell items that are still usable.
4) Check On Your Blankets
For a lot of us horse blankets are necessary to keep our horses healthy, warm, and dry during this wet cold weather. To be ready for winter make sure that any repairs, cleaning, and reproofing are done before they are needed.
5) Keep Your Footing
We are always concerned about our horse’s footing, but for your safety be sure to keep a bucket of salt and sand mix for traction over icy patches around the yard.
6) Keep The Critters Cozy
Ensure that your barnyard cats and other critters have a cozy safe place that is accessible throughout the colder winter.
