There is something luxurious about owning a high quality natural bristle brush. Typically something saved for shows, or when you truly want to pamper your horse, these brushes need to be cleaned like any other tool in our kit. As natural bristles are typically more sensitive to soaking, harsh chemicals, and are more susceptible to damage, we have a special cleaning routine to ensure they are cleaned carefully!
Step One: Remove as much loose dirt and hair as possible
Take the time to lightly brush your brushes, run your fingers through the bristles, and in extreme cases of dirt consider using a curry comb to run through the bristles.
Step Two: Pre-Rinse
Rinse the brushes but try to avoid soaking or submerging the brushes when possible.
Step Three: Add Soap Directly to the bristles
Gently massage your chosen soap (we prefer Dawn as it is gentle, and tough on oil) through the bristles.
Step Four: Rinse Soap
Rinse the brushes (avoiding soaking or submerging) until the water runs clear.
Step Five:
Place your brush bristles down on a clean surface in sunlight. For brushes that have wood backs/handles be sure to turn them onto their backs once the bristles are dry to ensure that the wood areas have ample time to dry.
